Meet Jeebus. She's a 13-year-old DSH. She and her sister Betty came from Celia Hammond's animal trust after the four of them at roughly one month old were found wrapped in a black bag somewhere in East London. The boy kittens were taken away and I kept the tabby girls. This July we'll be going into our fourteenth year together.

Betty is the shyer, but saner one. Jeebus is very talkative, very needy and can't pee inside the tray for the life of her.

I know a lot of you like the Wellness brand for your felines. Here is a coupon for a free can of cat food at Petco.
http://www.petco.com/petco_Page_PC_wellnesscouponjune12.aspx
Expires 6/30. Can be redeemed once per transaction with your pals rewards card. I keep a few in my bag and every time I go into the pet store to buy something I redeem one of these. It's a great way to try what varieties your cat likes before buying a bigger quantity or case.
Hope this is allowed. Mods can delete if not allowed.

Has anyone had a cat (or dog) that was affected by the Diamond Pet Food recalls? Has anyone asked Diamond to pay their vet bills and came out successful? I've started the claim process and I need some more information from my vets office tomorrow before I can submit my (rather large) bill.

I could also use some recommendations for new grain-free foods that are not manufactured in a plant like any of Diamond's where one recall can affect a mass amount of different brands of food. I have been attempting to switch them over to Acana, a locally sourced Canadian manufactured food, but the illness-free cats are not really enjoying it. They started vomiting it up...I'm hoping this is something they adjust to without issue in a few days. I have one sick cat who is on a completely separate diet at the moment while she tries to recover from the after-affects of eating the contaminated food between vet visits for subcutaneous water injection.

I didn't realize that all three foods we feed our animals were all manufactured by Diamond. I had no idea that my Nature's Domain dog food from Costco was made by the same people that make my Taste Of The Wild dry cat food or Wellness wet food. Now, I'm just trying to fix this all and switch them all once again to a GOOD food. I prefer cost-effective options. I started with Nature's Variety Instinct - they greatly disliked it and the smell turned my stomach. I moved them to ToTW without issue and they were very happy and healthy on it until our contaminated bag. Now on the Acana and I'm hoping the adjustment goes well, but I'm looking for other GOOD options to research as back-ups.

Thanks in advance.

Hello fellow feline cat lovers!

Ill start off this post with a picture of my old grumpy girl Patches! Guarding my apartment from the stray cats outside...and showing the reason why she is an only cat! (Curses!)

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've recently opened up my studio to doing pet portraits! I'm currently giving a deal on them for 60$ for a 9x12 painted portrait for the first 10 customers. (Then prices will rise to what I would normally sell them for after this!)

Unfortunately, all the examples I have are of dogs.. (patches says, "YUCK!") So I'll put those behind a cut!

Check them out back here if your interested! )

Cheers! :)

I don't know if this is normal or not so I figured I'd post it and see if anyone else has experienced this.

First and foremost: Apollo and Orangey are both neutered, in excellent health, and get along great. Like, bro's from a different mother!

Weird thing: whenever Orangey finds somewhere he likes to sleep, Apollo gets really jealous. First he'll push Orangey out of wherever he's sleeping and if that doesn't do the trick, he pee's on it. Yes, pee's. I've never had a cat do this and it's really strange; he uses the litter box fine and never has any accidents anywhere else but whenever we get a new basket/bed for the cats and Orangey REALLY likes it, Apollo will pee on it. All of the other cat bed/perch areas that Apollo uses and Orangey doesn't, he leaves alone and they're all in great shape. As you can imagine, it can get irksome both because Orangey loses a place he enjoys and because I usually have to toss whatever it is out.

Here's a picture of Orangey being awesome:

Hey cat lovers! I'm new to the community and come with questions.

I've got three lovely kitties (Maggie, Roxy, and Walt) who are, in my opinion, the best cats a gal could ask for.

I'm getting ready to move 7 hours away and I'm concerned about my poor kitties' psyches during the move. They tolerated a 3 hour move with surprisingly good grace 3 years ago, but when I moved again last year, during a 2 hour move, it didn't go as well. For some reason, the three of them were incredibly stresses, to the point that Roxy, the calmest one, actually urinated all over herself in her carrier.

I have no idea what it was that stressed them so severely the last time, but I'd like to try and avoid that kind of stress this time around.

Do you guys have any tips on how to make this move as easy on my kitties as possible? I talked to my vet about the possibility of sedating them somewhat, but she doesn't think it will help with their stress, and I tend to agree.

Thanks for any tips and tricks ya'll can give me, and know that Maggie, Roxy, and Walt appreciate them dearly!!

constant meowing & leash training
[info]fractalcloud
My cat, Alabaster, whom I adopted from a shelter a few months ago HATES being alone, and when he is, he will let out some pretty pathetic and sad meows. He is the loudest most vocal cat I have ever had. He always seems to meow right right when I go to bed, too. As soon as I turn off the lights and get into bed, he starts mewing and walking around my apartment. He also does this around 4:30 every morning and wakes me up. And then when I finally give up and realize that he will not let me sleep, he goes to sleep on my chair in my bedroom! He also loves playing fetch and will bring me a toy and meow at me until I throw it. ( that I don't mind so much. it is pretty cute)

How can I minimize this meowing when I am trying to sleep? I wear ear plugs, but that barely helps with how loud he is.
Also, my room mate decided to paint him with Kool-aid a couple weeks ago. So now I have a partially pink cat. He didn't seem to mind it. He was actually purring. XD

I am also leash training him, which is going fairly well. He doesn't mind the harness at all, but he can't seem to grasp the concept of a leash and following along.

he was a special boy. very naughty and was beyond anyones ability to teach him to listen like a good boy. i was the closest to him. he came into my life when he was hardly a week old, eyes barely opened. he grew up to be one tough cookie, always surprising me with random scratches that are now scars and one of the few physical memory i have left of him. he was my favorite, just like i was his favorite in this family. he follows me wherever i go, even as i answer natures call, he sits on my lap (v good balancing skills, my boy!) and when i shower, he will stay perched on the toilet seat. doing nothing, just looking handsome. now, he is in another world. somewhere where i cant be at. i cant see him, touch him, smell him and hear him anymore. but always always always, i will feel him, still there, deep down in my heart - a spot that will never be erased. you will always be my favorite boy. i love you dear motty. thank you for choosing me to be your mamacat.

So my cat (a female calico) seems determined not to use her literbox since I moved and had to put it in the bathroom closet. I keep it open for her, and I've shown it to her, but she prefers to pee in my bed instead. I'm trying to be patient, but it's really frustrating because I've moved her box before and I've never had this issue. Any ideas as to what I can do? I can't put the box anywhere else so I'm kinda stuck....
